Curvaceous geometry shapes this super insulated 'earth-contact' home-office, set literally within the desert xeriscape on the outskirts of Phoenix Arizona, USA.

This modern detached Desert Office/Guest House has it's floor actually set below the xeriscape desert garden by 30", creating eye level garden views when seated at your desk. This 'earth-contact' type of construction greatly helps temper the hot desert environment, and creates a fun feeling when looking out the windows, silently sneaking a peek into the world of quail, squirrels and garden plants on the other side of the ground level glass.

We reconfigured this large level lot by creatively sculpting the contours and drainage into a natural looking earthen hill, and is intended to provide a visual buffer from the street corner to the main home beyond.

Hidden below, completely underground and naturally cooled by masonry walls wrapped in full earth contact, sits a six car garage and storage space. We bermed the soil upabout 14' high to completely cover the street side massing of the underground 6 car garage.

There is a spiral stair connecting the Garage to the comfortable 3 person office creating the sensation of climbing up-and-out through the xeriscape gardens as you rise-up, passing by the curved glass windows set right at ground level to the cactus. This natural desert layer of 12" soil envelops the structure up to 40" above the conditioned office floor, insuring an earth tempered ambiance and adding a creative look from the inside and out to this detached 'accessory use', home office.

This property falls withing the City Of Scottsdale Natural Area Open Space (NAOS) area so special attention was required for this sensitive desert land project.
